TUCSON, AZ — Ryan Galan knocked in six runs and the University of La Verne baseball team rolled on their way to their third straight blowout win, taking down the Texas-Dallas Comets 16-4.
The Leopards get 2019 off to a hot start. After dropping their first game of the weekend, La Verne responded by outscoring their next three opponents 45-7 to improve to 3-1.
Galan had a huge day a the plate for the Leopards. The senior went 3-5 at the plate with a walk and knocked in a pair of runs the second, fifth, and seven innings to cap off a stellar weekend. The Burbank native finished the weekend with 10 RBI, nine hits, seven runs, and three stolen bases.
Christopher Ligot had another stellar game for the Leopards going a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three runs, two RBI, and a walk.
Catcher Adam Santa Cruz drove in a pair of runs. Tanner Siffert, John Bike, Lukas Granado, and Jacob Benson each added two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Christopher Peres totaled two hits, one RBI, and one run.
How it Happened
The Leopards got out fast taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first following RBI by Siffert and Peres. After the Comets cut La Verne's lead in half with an RBI in the bottom of the first, the Leopards exploded in the top of the second inning with five runs off five hits highlighted by a double by Galan.
La Verne poured on four more runs in the fifth inning off RBI by Bike, Benson, and Galan to put the game out of reach. The Leopards finished the game with 19 hits.
The Leopards will head to Louisiana this weekend when they take on Centenary Gentlemen in a three-game series. The squads will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. and play an 8 a.m. game on Sunday (Pacific times listed).
