Leopards Suffer Road Defeat At Pomona-Pitzer
The University of La Verne dropped its second consecutive game in falling to Pomona-Pitzer 71-54 in SCIAC action Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium in Claremont.
Pomona-Pitzer scored the game's first 11 points and led 39-25 at halftime in shooting 53.0% from the field. The Hens shot just 36.4% from the field after intermission but maintained its double-digit advantage throughout the second half. The Leopards struggled offensively, shooting 26.2% (16-61) from the field.
Sagehen center Justin Sexton recorded game-highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sexton also finished 5-9 from three-point range.
Billy Nicolini was a bright spot offensively for the Leos with a team-high 21 points, connecting on five three-point field goals. Matt Heyd added 10 points while Austin Napolitano nearly posted a double-double by registering 9 points and 9 rebounds.
La Verne (6-13, 2-6 SCIAC) will conclude its four-game road swing Saturday as it visits Cal Lutheran in a 7:30 pm tip-off in Thousand Oaks.
