Leopards Place Fifth At CSU San Marcos Invitational

The University of La Verne golf team made its 2009 debut at the Cal State San Marcos Invitational Tournament, placing in a tie for fifth overall with a two-round total of 623 (320-303) in the 14-team field. 

Holy Names took top honors at the tournament with a final composite of 592 followed by Cal State San Bernardino (593), Cal State East Bay (616) and Point Loma Nazarene (620) to round out the top four.

The Leopards finished tied with tournament host Cal State San Marcos for fifth place under first-year head coach Joe Skovron. 

Junior Andrew Kramer led La Verne with a two-round total of 146 (74-72) to finish tied for fifth in the individual standings.   Senior Rizal Amin finished 25th overall with a two-round tally of 154 (83-71).  Other Leopard competitors included Eric Bunge (160, T-48th), Ryan Waring (165, T-61th) and Kevin Smith (169. T-75th).

La Verne gears up for its initial conference meet of the season at the SCIAC #1 held at Brookside Country Club on Monday, Feb. 17.
