Leos Drop Home Game to Stags in Overtime
The University of La Verne men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss in overtime against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags in SCIAC action on Wednesday at Ben Hines Field.
Both teams battled in the first half with La Verne out shooting the Stags 10 to 5. The match would be scoreless going into half time.
The Leopards struck first with a goal in the 60th minute by Peter Careaga. La Verne would hold the Stags scoreless until the final minutes of the game. Alex Lichtenberg's corner kick into the box in the 89th minute found Harrison Doyle who was able to score the game-tying goal.
The CMS goal took the match into sudden-death overtime. The
Stags didn't waste any time scoring a goal six minutes into
extended play. The Stags were awarded a corner kick. Lichtenberg
took the kick which curved into the goal giving CMS a 2-1 victory
over the Leopards
The Leopards drop to 2-5-1 overall and 2-3 in conference, while the Stags improve to 4-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in SCIAC play.
La Verne men's soccer will pick back up on Saturday with a road game in Pasadena against the Caltech Beavers. The match will begin at 1pm.
