Leopards Defeat Tigers in Double Overtime

Looking for their first conference win of the 2010 season, the University of La Verne men's soccer team took on the Occidental College Tigers on Saturday night in Los Angeles. A scoreless contest would send the game into two overtimes, where the Leopards would finally score and win a 1-0 decision.

Both teams came out aggressively with La Verne recording 17 fouls and 2 yellow cards, to Oxy's 18 fouls and 1 yellow card. Although the match remained scoreless for the majority of the game, La Verne was able to control the game offensively, out shooting the Tigers 18-8.

It was in the 114th minute that Nahavi Mendoza broke the 0-0 deadlock with the game-winning goal to defeat the Tigers.  Mendoza came up big for the Leopards throughout the game with a total of nine shots and one unassisted goal.

Leopard's goalie, Jonathyn Lomeli, kept the Tigers from scoring, recording five saves in the victory.

La Verne will hit the road again, heading to Whittier on Wednesday night to take on the Poets.  The match will begin at 7:00pm.
