La Verne Falls to Poets

The University of La Verne men's soccer team traveled to Whittier to take on the Poets of Whittier College on Wednesday afternoon. Despite their best efforts, the Leopards fell in a 3-0 finish.

The Poets outshot the Leopards 23 to 14 in the contest.  La Verne would only be down by one in the first half with a goal scored by Poets' Jorge Figueroa on an assist by Sam Russell. Whittier came out firing with an unassisted goal by Sam Russell early in the second half.  Whittier’s Srdan Jovanovic would score one more goal in the second half to cap off a 3-0 victory.
 

Mario Cisneros lead the Leopards with five shots, while goalie, Jonathyn Lomeli had eight saves.

La Verne will host Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at Ben Hines Field.  The match will begin at 11:00am.
