The men's cross country team hit the ground running on Sept 5, participating in the Cal State Fullerton Invitation. The team was finished 17thoverall.
Going against colleges from all over Southern California including Division II Cal Poly Pomona and NAIA Azusa Pacific, senior Jasper Chang enjoyed the top Leopard finish, running the 8k event in 28:13, placing him at 84th. "The fact that we had eight runners on the starting line is an exciting feat unto itself," head coach Mike Atwood said. "Last season, we usually had four men on the starting line, so to double that number and to be competitive with the teams from the SCIAC shows that we are on our way to a successful season."
Others that completed the race were David Bradley, Marcus Fortugno, Alex Forbess, Matthew Sustayta, Victor Serrano and Oscar Castro, all placing in the Top 200. Atwood believes the key competitors were the fifth, sixth and seventh place runners because the team.
The next meet will be the Westmont Invitational on Sept 19.
