Leopards Set Team School Records At Pomona-Pitzer Invite

It was a record-setting day for the University of La Verne men's cross country team in earning a fourth place overall finish at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday in Claremont.

La Verne, returning to competition after a three-week hiatus, completed the eight kilometer course with a team average of 26:24.98, and a total team time of 2:12.04.90, both of which established school records. 

Cal State San Marcos (38) finished first in the team standings followed by Westmont (61), Occidental (78) and the Leopards (136) among the 13 schools represented.  

Alex Forbess continued his strong season as he was the top finisher for the Leos with a time of 25:38.4 to earn an impressive ninth-place finish.  He was followed by AJ Licon, who finished his race in 26:03.9 to place 23rd overall. 

Matthew Sustayta (26:30.3), Alberto Acosta (26:54.3) and Sean Kusick (26:58.3) rounded out the top five for the Leos as each tallied times under 27:00. 

The Leopards are off next week before resuming action at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet Saturday, October 15 at La Mirada Park.
