Leopards Set For West Regionals
The University of La Verne men's cross country team will test its mettle against the best in the West this Saturday at the squad competes at the West Region Championships held at the Pomona-Pitzer course in Claremont.
La Verne has been ranked in the West Region Top 10 rankings all season and come off an impressive team showing at the SCIAC Cross Country Championships in Chino two weeks earlier.
The Leopards will battle top conference teams such as Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps while also facing elite competition from the Northwest Conference such as Whitworth, Willamette, Linfield and Lewis & Clark. Also in the mix is Colorado College, a perennial fixture among the top West Region schools.
Among the talented Leopard competitors include Alex Forbess, who finished second overall at the conference championships.
"After some clutch performances at the SCIAC Championships, the men are thrilled to show how fit they are," said Leopard head coach Mike Atwood. "We've stuck to the fundamentals and never deviated from our goals that we've set. The coaching staff has complete confidence in them to get the job done."
The men's race is schedule for 10 am.
