LOUISVILLE, Ky. — La Verne first baseman Alexis Schiff was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-West Region on Monday. It is the senior's second All-Region selection of her career after earning Second Team honors last year.
Schiff emerged as one of the most feared hitters in the nation this year. She slammed 16 home runs, which is good for second in the nation, and hit .391/.506/.836. She drove in 43 runs and scored 43.
The Long Beach native posted the staggering numbers even as opposing pitchers tried to avoid her as much as possible. She drew a total of 29 bases on balls this season, with 14 of them coming via the intentional walk.
Schiff was named the 2017 SCIAC Softball Athlete of the Year after leading the Leopards to back-to-back conference championships and was selected to the All-SCIAC Softball Team for the fourth year in a row.
For her career, Schiff has hit .384/.453/.727 with 42 home runs, 153 RBI and 117 runs scored.
The All-Region teams are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions.
