La Verne Swim Falls to Pomona-Pitzer

It was another day of season best performances for the La Verne swim and dive team as they took on Pomona-Pitzer in conference action Saturday afternoon. Although the team recorded 14 season best times for the men and 13 for the women, the Leopards would fall to the Sagehens 179-85 in the men's meet and 193-72 in the women's competition.

Sophomore Marc Okimura continues to dominate for the Leos placing first in all three of his individual events: the 100-yard breaststroke (59.47), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.19) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.42). He also recorded a season best time in the 50-yard breaststroke (27:38) in his leg of the men's medley relay.

Matt Johnson enjoyed his first event win of the season in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.16. He also had a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.20) behind Okimura. John Jarvis also posted a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.60.

The men's medley relay team of Shane Hurter, Okimura, Tyler Hunt, and Andrew Mackay recorded a second place finish with a time of 1:42.03.

On the women's side, Maddie Lovrensky continued her stellar freshman campaign with two first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.35) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.82). She also recorded a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.12.

Shelby Broyles went the distance for the Leopards in winning the 1650-yard freestyle (19:43.14) while also placing second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:48.88).

Jaycee Hallford registered two second place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.86) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.21).

Leopard diver, Jacob Tittl placed first in both the 1-meter dive (236.40) and the 3-meter dive (242.30), his best scores this season.

"Although Pomona-Pitzer dominated in many of the events, we battled hard and did not back down," said Leopard head coach Pat Skehan. "This should bode well for us as we approach SCIAC Championships."

The Leos will be taking on Caltech next Saturday for their final home meet of the season. They will be recognizing all of their seniors as well as celebrating Fan Appreciation Day at La Verne Aquatic Center. The meet will begin at 11:00AM.
