La Verne Tops Whittier At Home

After several close losses, La Verne was able to defeat Whittier
College for the first time in three years in a 126-108 finish on
Saturday morning at the La Verne Aquatics Center.
Mark Wilson, Scott Jones, Brett Case and Matt Johnson started La
Verne in the right direction with a 1:43.62 first place finish in
the 200 Medley Relay, defeating the Poets by .32 seconds.
Wilson also grabbed first place in the 200 IM (2:07.79) and a
second place in the 200 Butterfly (2:17.01). After trailing early
in the race, Jones was able to add another 9 points to La Verne's
score by finishing first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:17.68). Case
also contributed a first place in the 100 Freestyle (50.70) and a
narrow second place finish in the 50 Freestyle (23.33). Johnson was
also the anchor of the winning 200 Freestyle Relay, helping Andrew
MacKay, Brad Denton and Dennis Rickerd finish in 1:32.72.
Senior Errol Stump finished right behind Case in the 100 Freestyle
(50.80) and took first in the 200 Freestyle (1:52.63).
Adam Kazub finished the meet with a first place in the 3 Meter Dive
(162.75) after taking a first in the 1 Meter Dive (149.40) earlier
in the meet.
La Verne will try to take its momentum into next Saturday as they
host Pomona-Pitzer at home. The meet begins at 10 am.
