Leos Fall To Hens, Tigers In Conference Matches
After a non-conference victory over Pacific Lutheran, the University of La Verne tennis team resumed conference play over the weekend against Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental. The SCIAC proved treacherous as the Leopards dropped a 9-0 decision to the Sagehens at The Claremont Club on Friday and were edged out by the Tigers 6-3 the following afternoon in Eagle Rock.
Against the Tigers, the tandem of Lila Luna and Arielle Monteilh scored La Verne's first victory in doubles competition, outlasting the Occidental duo of Isabelle Ying and Julie Housman 9-8.
In singles play, Allison Moncrief battled back from an opening set loss to beat Jessica Go 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. At the four spot, Arielle Monteilh was impressive as she beat Isabelle Ying in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Despite defeats, Luna, Allison Moncrief and Carly Tucker took their matches into the third set.
"It was a tough match, we battled and just need to learn from our mistakes," said Leopards head coach Yolanda Duron.
La Verne looks to bounce back as they take a trip to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at 3:00 pm
