Leopard women enjoy solid effort at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers
Against numerous athletes from Division I, III and community colleges, the University of La Verne women's track and field team enjoyed several strong performances at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet Saturday in Claremont.
The Leopard women enjoyed victories in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay events in addition to solid individual efforts.
Freshman sprinter Ebony Williams earned a pair of third-place finishes, clocking in at 12.93 in the 100 meters while running 26.98 in the 200 meter dash.
Junior Clarissa Holz placed second overall in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 61.00.
In field events, thrower Bernadette Smith earned a second place finish in the hammer (145-3) while also placing third in both the shot put (34-11) and discus (113-5) events. In the shot, freshman Netania Toilolo placed second overall with a toss of 35-2 1/2.
Senior Corbin Henault, an NCAA qualifier in the javelin throw last season, placed second overall in that event with a heave of 120-5. Gloria Escalante finished second in the triple jump with a 33-6 effort.
La Verne continues action next week at the Rossi Relays on Saturday, February 26 in Claremont.
