PASADENA — Delaney Lynch put away 10 kills and every available player contriubted as the No. 22 La Verne volleyball team defeated Caltech, 25-18, 25-5, 25-14, on Saturday afternoon at Braun Gymnasium.
The Leopards finish the SCIAC season with a 13-3 record (22-5 overall) and now waits for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament matchups to finalize. Caltech finishes the season 2-21 overall and 0-16 in the SCIAC.
La Verne had an edge in every aspect of the game. The Leopards hit .365 while holding the Beavers to .000, put down 11 service aces and had seven total blocks.
Lynch's 10 kills led all players and Kelsi Robinson knocked down eight kills in two sets. Cassie Thompson had five kills and five blocks, and Marisa Rojo and Katelyn Winiecki each contributed four kills.
The Beavers stayed with striking distance midway through the first set but La Verne went on a 7-0 run keyed by two kills apiece from Robinson and Kaylee Johnson to grab a 19-8 lead. Caltech responded with a 5-0 run of its own but it wasn't nearly enough.
The second set was La Verne as it recorded 15 kills without an error in 25 attempts and put away four service aces. The Beavers were held to just three kills on 20 swings.
Caltech rattled off six unanswered points in the third set to get within 13-11. But the Leopards swarmed the Beavers with a 11-2 run to close the set and the match.
The Leopards will play the first round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Thursday at a site and time to be determined after the completion of today's SCIAC matchups.
