CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The No. 15 ranked University of La Verne volleyball team opened their cross country trip with a big four-set win over previously undefeated Babson.
Set Scores: 25-15, 20-25, 25-10, 25-18
Season Impact: With the win, the Leopards stay perfect this season improving to 5-0. La Verne opened the year by winning four games on their home court during the Pacific Coast Classic last weekend. The Babson Beavers suffer their first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1.
"We did a really good job working as a team," said Head Coach Jenna Panatier. "The first game we really focused on identifying the other team's strengths and weaknesses, and we were able to move forward from there."
The Leopards were led by senior Marisa Rojo and sophomore Mireya Rojo who each turned in 10 kills in the match. Marisa Rojo is coming off a Pacific Coast Classic Tournament where she finished the weekend with 43 kills and was named to the All-Tournament team.
"She's doing what a senior needs to be doing and we're really proud of her performance so far this season," said Panatier.
After the Beavers and Leopards traded points early on in the first set, La Verne went on a 9-2 run highlighted by an ace from Madison Maynes and back-to-back kills from Mireya Rojo to take a 19-9 lead and run away with the set.
After dropping a close second set, the Leopards dominated in the third, leading by as many as 16 points on the way to a 25-10 win to go up 2-1.
In the fourth after Mireya Rojo tied the set at 7-7, the Leopards capitalized off an attack error by the Beavers to take the lead for good.
Next Game: The Leopards continue the MIT Invitational with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning with a 9 a.m. game against Springfield. La Verne finishes the day with a 1 p.m. game against host MIT.
