La Verne Sinks Macalester
The Leopards held their first home game of the year against
Macalester College Wednesday afternoon and came away with a 15-8
victory at the La Verne Aquatics Center.
Sarah Ellerton scored the first points of the match for the Scots,
but La Verne scored five thanks to goals from Catherine Tehuitzil
and two each from Liz Roberts and Ashley Forsberg. The
Leopards shut out Macalester in the second quarter, while Forsberg,
Diane Aguayo and Claudia Sandoval added to La Verne's lead, taking
an 8-3 advantage heading into the break.
The Leos the picked up right where they left off, as Liz Roberts
scored a goal less than 40 seconds into the third quarter.
Ellerton scored two goals for Macalester, but Forsberg and Roberts
negated her efforts with goals of their own. Tehuitzil
tallied two more goals in the final quarter, and Roberts and
Sandoval both found the back of the net to seal the 15-8 win.
Roberts and Forsberg ended the match with 5 goals each.
Aguayo drew two penalty shots for the Leopards and goalie Lauren
Shepard recorded 14 saves during the contest.
La Verne will host a double-header tomorrow, facing George
Washington at 10 am before taking on Whittier College at 4:00 pm at
the La Verne Aquatics Center.
