Leos Top Macalaster at Home

The University of La Verne women's water polo team hosted the Macalaster Scots and the Whittier Poets on Sunday at the La Verne Aquatics Center. The Leos topped the Scots in the first game 14-2 before dropping the second game to the Poets 9-4.

The Leopards would dominate action against Macalester, scoring four goals in the first quarter, three in the second, four in the third, and three in the fourth. The Scots would only be able to score two goals, one in the third and one in the fourth resulting in a 14-2 Leopard victory. Katie Lacek and Theresa Porter led the team with three goals each. Melissa Dooley and Anjuli Palos De La Rosa would contribute two goals. La Verne goalie Shane Burgess had three saves in the first half of play, and Lauren Shepard recorded five saves in the second half.

Against Whittier, the Leos trailed 6-0 in the first half of play against the Poets before Erika Vargas registered the first goal for La Verne. The Leos would score two more goals by Bethie Ross and Lacek in the third quarter, before Whittier would increase the lead to 8-3. Both teams would score a goal in the fourth. The Poets would end with a 9-4 victory over the Leopards. Ross had a game high of two goals. Shane Burgess had five saves for the Leos in the first half, while Lauren Shepard recorded six in the second.

The Leopards will be competing in the Lancer Invite this weekend, March 18th and 19th, where they will take on Azusa Pacific, Vanguard, Pacific, and Cal Baptist. The first game will start at 11:00am in Riverside.
