Leos Drop Two Games at Home

On Saturday the University of La Verne women's water polo team suffered a 12-4 loss to the NAIA Condordia Eagles and a 14-12 defeat to SCIAC opponent Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in its 2012 season debut at the La Verne Aquatics Center.

The Leopards started the day off with the matchup against the Eagles. Concordia was able to score seven goals in the first half of play, holding the Leos to one. La Verne was able to score three more goals in the second half, but it would not be enough. The Eagles scored two goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth for a 12-4 victory.

Junior Alex Gudenaeu scored two goals, while Katie Lacek and Bethie Ross each contributed one goal. Goalie Lauren Shepard recorded five saves followed by Shane Burgess who had four saves.

In the second match of the day the Leopards and the Athenas were knotted at five heading into the second half of play. CMS would score six goals to the Leos four in the third quarter to take an 11-9 lead. Both teams would score three goals in the final quarter of the game. The third quarter would be the deciding factor, resulting in a 14-12 CMS victory.

Erika Vargas led the Leopards with five goals in the match. Ross followed her with three goals. Burgess recorded nine saves.

La Verne will head to Orange February 25th-26th for the Chapman Tournament. They will be taking on Gannon, Occidental, Vanguard, and Chapman.
