La Verne Women Take Seventh At Conference Championships

The women's cross country team pulled above Caltech at the SCIAC championships on Saturday, finishing seventh overall at Prado Park in Chino.

Occidental College won the meet with 44 total points for the meet. Rounding out the top three finishers were Pomona Pitzer (59) and Claremont Mudd-Scripps (74).

Alicia Freese from Pomona-Pitzer took top individual honors by completing the six-kilometer course in 22:42.66.

La Verne finished with 204 total points for the meet with Caltech at 224 points.

The top finisher for the Leopards was Micaela Castillo who placed 39th in 25:53.09. Following behind Castillo was Brigitte Blazys placing 41st (26:00.17) in and Sydney Rose placing 42nd (26:00.76).

Guadalupe Cambreros and Amber Blackshear rounded off the top five women for La Verne placing 73rd and 82nd, respectively.

A total of seven women raced for the Leopards.  According to head coach Mike Atwood, four of the runners achieved personal bests at the meet.  The meet was the first time La Verne women's team has had seven runners finish under 29 minutes for a six-kilometer course.

The women will compete next in the NCAA Division III West Regional hosted by Pomona Pitzer on Nov. 14.
