La Verne women debut at CSUF Invite
The University of La Verne women's cross country team opened its 2010 season with an 18th place team finish at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park.
The meet included several Division I competitors, with UCLA (24), Long Beach State (71), Cal State Fullerton (98) and Loyola Marymount (114) taking the first four spots in the team results. The field also included SCIAC schools Whittier, Redlands and Cal Lutheran.
The highest Leopard finish belonged to sophomore Katie Barrese, who finished the six kilometer course in 23:53.3 to place third overall among the SCIAC participants. Overall Barrese placed 35th.
Teammate Micaela Castillo recorded a personal best on the day with a time of 25:06.2 to earn a 77th place overall finish. Other La Verne competitors included Yanette Urciaga (26:24.8) and Sydney Rose (26:46.9).
La Verne will compete next Saturday (Sept. 11) in the UC Irvine Invitational.
