Leos Continue Improvement At UC Irvine Invite
The University of La Verne women's cross country team enjoyed a solid outing Saturday at the UC Irvine Invitational.
The Leopards finished 8th of 15 teams in the opening women's race at Anteater Recreation Field. The Leos also placed ahead of Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills finished and only 9 points from Division I Pepperdine.
For the second straight week, Katie Baresse enjoyed an impressive effort as she had the highest Leopard finish at the meet in crossing the finish line in 19:12.3. Baresse finished 6th among SCIAC competitors.
Other standout performers for the Leos included Micaela Castillo, who finished 41st overall in a time of 19:49.8, and Yanette Urciaga who placed 63rd in 20:37.7.
"Overall, I was impressed with their performances, as we accomplished all the goals that we came in with," said head coach Mike Atwood.
La Verne will next compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on saturday, October 2.
