LA VERNE, Calif. — La Verne outfielder Christopher Ligot and golfer Pitiluk Phanomchai have both been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Ligot had a huge weekend for La Verne, leading the Leopards to two wins over No. 15 Redlands. Ligot hit an incredible .615 with five RBI, eight hits, and two runs. In game one against the first place Bulldogs, he knocked in a run and finished with two hits in an 11 inning 7-2 win. In game two he went 4-5 at the plate with two RBI. He added two RBI and two hits in the final game of the series, leading his team to a 9-7 win.
Ligot is the second Leopard from the baseball team to earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition. Jakob Thomas earned the honor after finishing with six hits and five RBI in La Verne's series against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Cody Norman was recognized after striking out 14 in a complete game shutout win over Occidental.
Phanomchai led the La Verne men's golf team at SCIAC No. 2, taking first individually. The freshman opened the tournament with a one-under 71 and came out strong again the second time out, shooting a 73 for a total score of 144, edging out Pomona-Pitzer's Conor Rooney and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Johnny Brandt by one stroke. The Leopards took second as a team at SCIAC No. 2.
Two other Leopards have earned Men's Golf SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors.
