Sanders, Carr, Hilbert Named All-SCIAC

LA VERNE, CA — Preston Carr, Khary Sanders, and Torii Hilbert have been tabbed All-SCIAC the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced.

Carr picked up first-team honors, and both Sanders and Hilbert earned second-team recognition.

Carr had a monster season at linebacker for the Leopards on his way to earning All-SCIAC honors for the second time in his career. The senior led his squad and ranked second in the SCIAC with 9.9 tackles per game. He also led La Verne and ranked second in the conference with 79 total tackles. The Chino native added 6.5 tackles for losses, forced two fumbles, and recovered a pair of fumbles. Carr posted a career-high 14 tackles against then No. 11 Whitworth and totaled 13 tackles in a win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Carr was named Second Team All-SCIAC last season.

Sanders was a force up front for the Leopards on the defensive line and helped slow opponents' run game. The sophomore led the Leopards and ranked fourth in the SCIAC with 9.5 tackles for losses. He finished the season with 32 tackles and one sack. He had one of his biggest games against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps when he totaled six tackles including three for losses.

Hilbert picks up All-SCIAC honors for the second time in his career. The cornerback finished the season with five takeaways including three interceptions and two forced fumbles, and he also recovered a fumble. He added 44 tackles and one and a half tackles for losses. Hilbert was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after finishing with an interception and 10 tackles against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. He scored a defensive PAT against Willamette and blocked an extra point against Cal Lutheran that led to a defensive PAT. Hilbert earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors in 2017.
