PASADENA, CA — The University of La Verne men's golf team finished the weekend strong to claim the 2019 SCIAC Championship.
La Verne earns the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships which will take place May 14-17 in Nicholasville, KY. The Leopards posted a total score of 2057 over seven rounds of competition, three rounds this past weekend and four rounds during the regular season. It is the La Verne's men's golf team's tenth SCIAC Championship overall and first since 2013.
La Verne edged out Redlands (2061) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2063).
Pitiluk Phanomchai picked up some individual hardware, finishing second individually with a three-round total of 216. The Thailand native finished the day with two birdies. The Stags' Mason Chiu won the individual title with a score of 209.
Hisham Hussein tied for fourth individually, ending the weekend with his best round a par 74 to finish with a total card of 220. He was clutch down the stretch finishing with a pair of birdies over the final four holes. On the 18th, the senior played his way out of a bunker nicely, setting himself up with an easy put for par.
Conner Davis tied for 12th with a total score of 225. The senior ended round three with three birdies to card a 77.
Jason Brown had a big day for the Leopards. The junior shot a 73 in the final round, to end the weekend in a tie for 18th at 227.
Right there with Brown was freshman Connor Dunlop. The Canada native ended his first SCIAC Championships with a bang, tying the low round score for the Leopards with a 72. Dunlop tied for 18th at 227.
Jake Littlejohn had a crucial final day for La Verne. The sophomore finished the day with a card of 74 with three birdies and ended the weekend in a tie for 23rd with a total score of 230.
