LA VERNE, Calif. — Melissa Cerrillos set a school record in the 800m run, Matthew Salas ran the third fastest time in La Verne history in the men's 800m run to highlight the University of La Verne's track and field teams' showing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational al Saturday afternoon at Strehle Track.
The Pomona-Pitzer Invite features athletes from across all division as well as some national team and unattached athletes.
Cerillos set the next best mark for the Leopards in the 800m with a time of 2:15.87. The junior was the top NCAA Division III finisher, crossing the line with the 13th best time nationally.
Salas took second among DIII runners in the 800m with a time of 1:55.06. He now ranks 19th nationally in the event.
Fresh off winning the hammer throw, shot put, and discus at last week's SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 2, T.J. Randall added ninth-place finishes in both the shot put and hammer.
Anthony Hamilton led the way for the Leopards in the jumps, taking ninth in the high jump at 6-02.75.
Catalina Lee Kim continued her dominance in the 100m hurdles with a seventh-place finish and first among DIII runners in the event. The La Verne record currently ranks second in the nation in the 100m hurdles.
