Leopards pounce on Connecticut College

LA VERNE- The University of La Verne men's water polo squad took down Connecticut College 18-9 Saturday morning in a final tune-up before SCIAC play begins.

The Leopards scored eight unanswered goals to start the game and led 16-7 prior to the fourth quarter before cruising to the easy win.

Sophomore attackers Bryan Jimenez led all scorers with six goals while sophomore driver Matthew Vega chipped in five. Junior goalie Daniel Newell recorded 10 saves.

La Verne drew even with an alumni squad in a 0-0 exhibition game later in the day.

The Leos will open league play with a road matchup against Whittier College in Whittier, Calif. Wednesday at 7 p.m.
