LA VERNE, Calif. — Elisa Ponce earned a complete game win allowing just four hits, Katheryn Navarro left the yard, and the University of La Verne softball team rolled against the Bulldogs, winning 8-0 to salvage a split against Redlands Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: The Leopards now stand at 15-11 overall and 10-4 SCIAC play. La Verne currently sits in second place the SCIAC. Redlands moves to 13-15 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
Ponce pitched a gem on her way to picking up her sixth win in the circle this year. The senior from El Monte finished with just one walk in six innings of work. She currently has the third lowest ERA in the conference at 2.45.
Navarro hit her SCIAC-leading ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth, putting La Verne up 8-0 to end the game. The sophomore finished the day 2-3 at the plate with three runs scored.
Sienna Kendricks extended La Verne's lead to 7-0 in the fourth when she doubled to center to score two runners.
Jocelyn Hernandez took the loss for Redlands.

The Bulldogs and Leopards went into the seventh knotted up at 1-1, but Redlands exploded for four runs in the inning to take game one.
Tevis scored La Verne's only run of the game when she hit a solo shot in the third inning.
Jiana Rojo got the start in the circle and struck out two.
Next Series: The Leopards host the Chapman Panthers next Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The game will be part of the SCIAC's Strikeout Cancer event.
