REDLANDS, CA — The University of La Verne swimming and diving teams had a strong showing in their SCIAC opener at Redlands Saturday morning.
From the Coach
"We had a very good meet today even though the score did not reflect it," said head coach Pat Skehan. "We competed in every single event with a very good Redlands team. The freshman especially stepped up and performed well in their events. It was great to see this young team race well."
The Leopards were led by Rachel Fox. The senior won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:38.94 well ahead of the next best finisher. She followed that up with another win, this time in the 500 yard freestyle, touching at 5:41.60.
Freshman Alondra Camacho and senior Sara Bartelt each got in on the winning. Camacho highlighted her first SCIAC meet, winning the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.31. Bartelt led La Verne off the boards, finishing with a total score of 150.25 to win the three-meter dive. The senior took second in the one-meter dive.
On the men's side, Lorenzo DeLeon scored a come from behind win in the 200 yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:03.04, edging out Redlands' Anders Stenfjord.
Senior Captain Kayla Yip had a solid day finishing second in both the 50 freestyle (25.99) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.56).
