LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne volleyball team made quick work of the Tigers Saturday evening, sweeping Occidental and getting one step closer to a sport in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
Set Scores: 25-20, 25-16, 25-23
The Leopards extend their win streak to three games and improve their overall record to 16-9 overall and 8-5 in SCIAC play. The Tigers fall to 7-14 overall and 2-11 in the conference.
After the weekend's action, La Verne moves into a tie for fifth place in the SCIAC with Whittier. The Leopards and Poets both sit a half game behind fourth place Cal Lutheran (9-5 SCIAC) and one game behind third place Pomona-Pitzer (9-4 SCIAC).
There are still many ways for the final standings to shake out in the final week of the regular season. Cal Lutheran plays it's final two games against second place Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer.
The Leopards have key match-ups up this week, all against teams fighting for placement in the postseason. They'll open the week on the road Tuesday night against the Poets. Whittier cut La Verne's comeback short in their meeting earlier this season. After trailing 2-0 early, La Verne won the next two sets but fell in the fifth 15-12.
La Verne will then host Chapman for its final regular season home match on Friday night. And will close out the regular season down the road against the Sagehens. The Leopards fell to the Panthers in four sets and easily swept Pomona-Pitzer in their first match-up.
Katelyn Winiecki and Jones both added five kills. Maynes dished out 29 assists.Watch Live Follow ULV Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
