LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne men's water polo team hosted Whittier College to conclude the 2023 season. La Verne honored one senior,
Peter Trinh in his final game as a Leopard in a pregame ceremony.
Trinh ended his career on a high note, scoring a season-high eight goals, matching his career-high, with a .615 shooting percentage in the Leopards' 23-7 win over the Poets.
Trinh ends the season as the SCIAC leader with 111 goals.
The Leopards found the back of the nets early scoring two goals in the first minute of the game.
The defense held strong against the Poets as they only allowed three goals in the first half and seven total in the game.
Eric Bates needed just three saves in the win. The defense rarely let a shot get to him as the Leopards combined for nine field blocks. Trinh,
Jordan Baker, and
Nicolo Buono each finished with two apiece.
Baker finished with seven steals, four goals, and two assists in the win.
Ryan Beery added two goals, three steals, and a block. Bueno scored three times with a steal.
Sawyer Nering had two goals and a block.
Steven Rios scored twice with a steal. Davide Gutierrez added one goal and one steal, and
Jaden Javier scored once with one block.
La Verne concluded their season with an overall 7-19 record and a 4-8 conference record.
