THOUSAND OAKS, CA — The University of La Verne volleyball team traveled to Cal Lutheran on Friday night and won 3-1, setting up a key final regular season home game on Saturday evening.
With the win, the Leopards improved to 21-3 overall and took sole possession of second place in the SCIAC with a 12-3 conference record. The Leopards play their final regular season home game Saturday at 6 p.m. against Whittier College. If the Leopards win, they will host a SCIAC Postseason Tournament Semifinal match next Thursday, November 9.
Zacky Coaston was a menace at the net for La Verne. She registered a staggering 13 blocks in the match, setting a new career high.
Malia Capistrano directed the offense, handing out 38 assists to go with four aces in the win.
Mya Ray led the Leopards with 18 kills in the win followed by
Lauren Gott's 12. Ray also added 12 digs and five blocks.
After dropping the first set 25-18, the Leopards responded and dominated the second set, winning 25-13 off a .375 hitting percentage. In the third set tied 22-22, La Verne benefited from three straight Regal errors to take the 2-1 lead. La Verne had to rally late in the fourth set to secure the win. Noelani Soma. Gott sealed the win with an ace.
