WHITTIER, Calif. – The La Verne women's volleyball team is now 11-0 after a fiercely contested match against Whittier College Saturday, successfully defeating the Poet's 3-2 on the road. The Poets entered the match with a 4-7 record while faced with an impressive 10-0 La Verne count.
La Verne's consistency in the early sets enabled them to secure the first and third sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-23, respectively. Whittier fought back in the second and fourth sets, leveling the match with scores of 21-25 and 23-25, respectively.
In the decisive fifth set, La Verne showed exceptional composure and skill, securing the victory with a final score of 15-4. Their performance in this final set highlighted the Leopard's ability to maintain their focus and execute while under pressure.
La Verne recorded 56 kills, led by
Mya Ray with 18 kills, closely followed by
Lauren Gott who had 15 kills.
Ayana Mier rounded up the offense by contributing 10 kills to the team's efforts. The team also showcased their excellence in blocking, with
Zacky Coaston and
Noelani Soma leading the way with 5 and 4 blocks, respectively.
Malia Capistrano once again had an outstanding match and punched in 48 assists and 21 digs, followed closely by
Madison Smith with 19 digs.
Next Game: La Verne will host Caltech Tuesday, September 26th at 7 P.M in the Tents.
