LA VERNE, Calif - The University of La Verne men's soccer team faced the Panthers of Chapman University tonight at home in Ortmayer Stadium, resulting in a hard-fought battle ending with a 1-1 scoreline.
The first half put both goalkeepers to work showcasing several close scoring opportunities. At 20:53 Leopard fans held their breath when the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick after goalkeeper Logan Reese received a yellow card. But the kick went high and wide, and time resumed without a scoreboard change.
Chapman broke the stalemate at 33:02 when Conner Kilde looped a high soft shot just over Hector Duenas-Peña's head to take the lead. When the halftime whistle blew, the Leopards trailed 0-1.
After the break, it took only 40 seconds for the Leopards to take advantage of a stolen pass and Maximilian De Anda found the back of the net with an unassisted equalizer to even the score at 1-1.
Despite several shots on goal and some additional yellow cards, the game ended without any other scoreboard changes for a 1-1 draw.Â
La Verne will next travel to Eagle Rock when they will take on the Occidental College Tigers on September 30th at 7pm.
