WAUKESHA, Wis.-The University of La Verne men's soccer traveled to Carroll University in Wisconsin to take on the Lakeland University Muskies. It was a part of a two day, two game trip to the Midwest for the Leopards.
A scoreless first half saw the Leopards and Muskies in a fierce battle that resulted in several yellow cards for both teams. The teams averaged a similar shot count going into the half, foreshadowing an intense second half.
Maximillian De Anda opened up the nets for La Verne in the 65th minute, his first goal for the season. The Leopards continued to press the Muskies and were awarded by a
Adan Villarreal goal in the 73rd minute, his fourth on the year after a hat-track yesterday agaist St. Johns (MN). The Muskies aggressive response to La Verne's offense earned them two more yellow cards. In the 89th minute, the Leopards gave the Muskies a penalty kick after a failed defensive maneuver in the box, putting Lakeland on the board before the final minute. La Verne won the matchup at the final whistle in the thrilling 2-1 victory.
The Leopards will get an opportunity to continue their streak at home in Ortmayer Stadium this Friday, September 8th at 7 pm.
