Men's Soccer Scores Two Second Half Goals to Tie Sagehens

CLAREMONT, CA — Adan Villarreal and Anthony Bastidas scored second half goals, and the University of La Verne men's soccer team grabbed a 2-2 tie at Pomona-Pitzer Saturday afternoon.

Down 2-0 15 minutes into the second half, Villarreal scored his La Verne-leading seventh goal when Maximilian De Anda fed him a pass to the top corner of the box. Villarreal fired a shot over the outstretched arms of the keeper to the back of the net.

La Verne added the equalizer with just under 14 minutes to play. The Leopards controlled possession and meticulously worked their way down the field. Nathan Garcia drove to the end line and passed a ball through the box to Alex Singleton. The freshman tapped a pass to Bastidas who moved to his right, made a defender miss, and sent a shot across the face of the keeper to tie the game.

Hector Duenas-Peña grabbed two saves in the final minutes to preserve the tie. The senior finished with six saves.

La Verne moved its record to 3-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer went to 2-6-3 and 1-5-1.

The Leopards travel to Redlands on Wednesday, October 16 for a 7 p.m. game with the Bulldogs.
