CLAREMONT, CA — The Leopards battled and entered the fourth quarter trailing by one to second place Pomona-Pitzer. But the Sagehens ended the game on a 5-1 run to beat the University of La Verne men's water polo team 17-12.
Peter Trinh led the Leopards with four goals, three drawn exclusions, and one block.
Jordan Baker scored three times with one steal.
Eric Bates finished with nine saves.
The Leopards and Sagehens went toe-to-toe in the first quarter, trading goals to end the period tied 3-3.
Baker got rolling in the second, scoring three times in less than two minutes to give the Leopards a 7-5 edge.
Pomona-Pitzer took the lead midway through the second, but a goal by
Jaden Javier with 21 seconds left in the third cut the deficit to 12-11.
Nicolo Buono finished with one goal, assist, steal, and block.
Alam Chang-Barnuevo posted two goals and two steals.
Sawyer Nering dished a team-high three assists.
Esteban Rivera finished with one goal and one assist.
The Leopards return home on Saturday, October 26 at 11 a.m. against Cal Lutheran.
