No. 13 Leopards Sweep Redlands

REDLANDS, CA — The No. 13 University of La Verne Leopards hit .313 and rolled to a sweep over the University of Redlands Tuesday night.

The Leopards improve to 17-4 overall and 9-2 in the SCIAC. The win sets up a showdown with No. 12 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in The Tents on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Athenas are currently in first place with an 11-1 conference record. The Leopards handed CMS its lone SCIAC loss on October 11 at Roberts Pavilion in four sets. La Verne will look to complete a regular season sweep of CMS for the first time since 2012. The Leopards need a win in the matchup to keep their quest for their first SCIAC title since 2008 alive.

Mya Ray led the Leopards with 17 kills, 14 digs, and an ace in the win. Lauren Gott finished with eight kills, nine digs, and an ace.

Freshman Emanuele Isabella posted the best performance of her young Leopard career. The Chino Hills native hit .357 and tallied a career-high seven kills to go with three digs and a block.

The Leopards started hot, hitting .357 in the opening set and led by as many as nine. La Verne pulled away midway through the second set thanks to a 7-1 run sparked by kills from Ray and Isabella. The third set was never in question after the Leopards jumped out to a 7-2 lead on the way to the sweep.

Kaitlyn Bloomer paced La Verne with five blocks, Allison Whiteman finished with four, and Zacky Coaston added two.

Sydne Humpey posted 16 assists and two aces. Malia Capistrano added 14 assists and 10 digs. Vanessa Marquez finished with six assists.
