No. 13 Volleyball Sweeps Sagehens

CLAREMONT, CA — The No. 13 University of La Verne volleyball team rolled on the road Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.

It is the Leopards' 12 sweep of the season.

Mya Ray finished with 21 kills a day after posting a season-high 26 kills against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Allison Whiteman ended with 14 kills. Zacky Coaston led La Verne with five blocks and Maraiah Ray contributed four.

Malia Capistrano dealt 28 assists and Sydne Humphre added 13. Madison Smith tallied a team-high 16 digs.

The Leopards needed a late comeback to win the first set, trailing 22-20, Capistrano dished to Whiteman who put down a kill to cut the deficit to one. After the Sagehens briefly extended their lead back to two, La Verne responded with a 4-0 run led by three kills from Ray and an ace from Whiteman.

La Verne used hot hitting to turn away the Sagehens in the final two sets. La Verne hit .364 in the second and .314 in the third and Pomona-Pitzer never threatened late.

The Leopards move to 18-5 overall and 10-3 in the SCIAC. They return home on Tuesday, November 5 at 7 p.m. against Occidental
