LA VERNE, CA – The University of La Verne men's soccer team ended the 2024 season with a bang. The Leopards scored nine second-half goals in a 9-1 rout over the Bethesda Lion Angels on senior night. La Verne seniors accounted for all nine goals.
Maximilian De Anda had a night to remember, scoring a hat trick and adding three assists. Angel Loza scored twice and finished with one assist. Adan Villarreal added a brace with one assist.
The eight-goal difference is the Leopards' largest margin of victory since beating St. Katherine 7-0 in 2017.
Ruben Gonzalez and Michael Duran both scored once. Fellow seniors Logan Reese and Hector Duenas-Peña combined for three saves.
After heading into the half trailing 1-0, the Leopards went on a scoring flurry. De Anda got the Leopards rolling in the 59th minute when he roped a shot from the top of the box that froze the keeper.
In the 66th minute, Angel Loza added a score off a ricochet of a La Verne corner kick. Then the floodgates opened. The Leopards didn't go more than a few minutes the rest of the night without finding the back of the net.
De Anda launched a shot from 10 yards outside the box for his second goal. Duran kept the momentum rolling on a give-and-go play from De Anda.
The Leopards finished the 2024 season with a 6-12-1 overall record and tied for sixth place in the SCIAC.
La Verne honored seniors De Anda, Loza, Villarreal, Gonzalez, Duran, Reese, Duenas-Peña, and Kimson Martinez in a pregame ceremony.
