Box Score ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne men's soccer team played their 2024 season opener at Orange Coast College, suffering a close 2-1 loss to NAIA opponent Westcliff University.

The game followed the canceled season opener to Providence Christian College that was scheduled for August 30.

Michael Duran scored the lone goal for the Leopards 30 minutes into first-half play. Maximilian De Anda assisted after a perfectly centering corner kick. The seniors brought some life back to La Verne after Westcliff scored two goals in the first four minutes of the match.

As the half started to close, La Verne showed signs of a comeback with back-to-back shots to end the first period but couldn't convert.

Neither team scored in the second period leading to a final score of 2-1.
