Leopard Defeat Beavers, Collect First SCIAC Win

PASADENA, CA – Josh Lamberton and Jordan Baker continued their strong starts to the 2025 season, as the Leopards secured their first conference victory defeating Caltech, 18-11.

The Leos started off hot, scoring eight of the first nine goals including a run of seven in a row. At the half, La Verne led ten to six, and looked to keep the beavers quiet the rest of the way. The second half saw more of a balanced game with each team trading goals, but thanks to the strong start, the Leopards held on to win 18-11.

La Verne's attack came from the three headed monster of Lamberton, Tommy Gibson, and Baker. Lamberton led the Leopards in scoring and found the back of the net five times while also picking up an assist. Baker also had a solid game with four goals and two assists, and Gibson contributed two goals and three assists of his own.

Other key contributors included freshman William Roby Unkovich and Zachariah Barclay. Roby Unkovich had one of his best games as a Leopard picking up a goal and two assists. Barclay also proved to be a key contributor as he added three goals to the leopards attack.

With this win, La Verne moves to 1-1 in SCIAC play and 6-6 overall on the season. The Leopards will shift their focus to the two day Gary Troyer tournament coming up this weekend. On Friday, they will face off against Fresno Pacific and Ottawa University, followed by Augustana and UC Merced on Saturday. Day one of the tournament will be hosted by Chapman and day two will be hosted by Occidental.
