Blocking Clinic: Coaston and Ray Combine for 12 Blocks in Victory Over Sagehens

CLAREMONT, CA - The nation's top-ranked University of La Verne women's volleyball team continued its dominant season Friday night, earning a 3-1 victory (25-14, 25-19, 21-25, 25-14) over Pomona-Pitzer at Voelkel Gymnasium. The win pushes La Verne to 19-0 overall and 10-0 in SCIAC play, marking their fifth consecutive week as the No. 1 team in the country.

The Leopards came out sharp, hitting .364 and .355 in the opening two sets to jump out to a 2-0 lead. After dropping a tightly contested third set, La Verne responded with precision and power in the fourth, swinging at an impressive .480 clip to seal the match in convincing fashion.

Mya Ray led the offensive charge with 18 kills and five block assists, finishing with a match-high 22.5 points. Lauren Gott followed with 13 kills on a blistering .524 hitting percentage, while Alanna Jones and Mariah Ray each added six kills apiece. Zacky Coaston continued to dominate at the net, contributing seven block assists and three kills.

Setter Vanessa Marquez directed the Leopard offense with 24 assists, and Malia Capistrano added 16 more along with four service aces. Defensively, Keilani Mumolo anchored the back row with 13 digs, helping La Verne limit the Sagehens to just a .134 team hitting percentage.
