Leopards Battle to Tie as JImenez-Ramirez Fires Key Goal

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne Men's soccer team continued SCIAC play on Saturday night in a critical game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, tying the Stags 1-1.

Forward Israel Jimenez Ramirez batted through three CMS defenders to find the back of the net with his right foot to give the Leopards the lead in the 39th minute. The lead was held until the last eight minutes of the game, when CMS's Quadrini Matteo evened the score.

The Stags combined for 14 shots, with nine on goal. Two-time SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Hector Duenas-Pena tallied eight more saves, bringing his season total to 69 and keeping him atop the conference leaderboard.

The top five teams will qualify for the SCIAC Tournament. The Leopards return home for another crucial matchup on November 1 at 7 p.m. against Whittier.
