LA VERNE, CA – The La Verne men's water polo team dropped their conference clash against the Occidental Tigers on Saturday morning by a final of 14-11.
The Tigers opened strong with four goals in the first quarter, but the Leopards kept pace, trailing by just one after the opening frame. Both teams exchanged goals throughout the second quarter and at the half, it was anyone's game. The third quarter showcased resilient defense with both squads combining for just five goals in the period. However, Occidental pulled away in the final period, outscoring La Verne four to one to seal the win.
Josh Lamberton and Jordan Baker continue to lead the way for the Leos. Lamberton finished with two goals, three assists, and two steals while Baker contributed two goals, two assists, and three steals. Junior attacker Tommy Gibson tallied three goals and a steal, providing consistent offensive pressure throughout the game. Timothy Robles also had a solid performance as he netted two goals, added an assist, and recorded a steal to bolster La Verne's attack. Rounding out the offensive leaders were Richard Montanez and William Roby-Unkovich who each scored once.
Junior Goalkeeper Henry De Luna had a nice day in goal saving 11 of the shots fired his way.
Up next for the Leopards is a SCIAC matchup with the Bulldogs. La Verne will welcome Redlands to Las Flores Pool on Wednesday, October 29th at 7 P.M.
