Locked In: La Verne Sweeps Fisher and Sets Up Championship Showdown

BALTIMORE, MD - One day after flipping a match on its head, La Verne wasted no time asserting control on Friday. The Leopards came out composed, confident, and determined, sweeping No. 24 St. John Fisher 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-12) to punch their ticket to the NCAA Regional Final for the third-straight season. From the opening serve, La Verne carried the same fire that powered Thursday's comeback, but this time with no need for a warm-up set. They led almost wire-to-wire, dictating pace, pressure, and momentum in all three frames.

Behind the pins, Mya Ray delivered another commanding postseason performance, unleashing 15 kills while hitting .357 and adding two aces and three block assists — a presence St. John Fisher never managed to contain. Lauren Gott chipped in six kills, playing with the same edge she showed the night before, while setter Malia Capistrano kept the attack humming with 16 assists and an ace while hitting a perfect 1.000 on her lone swing.

At the net, the Leopards were relentless again. Zacky Coaston, fresh off setting the all-time program blocks record on Thursday, added another strong performance with four kills and five blocks to help shut down Fisher's offense. Abigail Montana followed with four kills of her own while hitting .375 and tallying five more block assists, continuing her dominant run through the regional. La Verne totaled 16 blocks as a team, while their back row anchored the defensive effort with 41 digs - led by Keilani Mumolo's 13.

Offensively, La Verne hit .244 overall, improving their efficiency each set with .152 in the first, .259 in the second, and .364 in the third. Their defense made the biggest statement of the night, holding St. John Fisher to -.041 hitting on just 21 kills and 25 errors; the second straight match where the Leopards forced an opponent into the negatives. Fisher never reached more than 16 points after the opening frame, as La Verne repeatedly shut down rallies with disciplined blocking and fast transitions.

From start to finish, it was the kind of composed, clinical performance that championship teams deliver in November. And now, the Leopards are one win away from advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals in Bloomington, Illinois.

La Verne will play tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, at 5 p.m. EST (2 p.m. PST), in the NCAA Regional Final where they will face the host, No. 6Johns Hopkins University. After two dominant postseason victories, the Leopards step into Championship Saturday looking every bit ready for the moment.
