Women’s Water Polo Wins Big on Senior Night

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo seniors shined, leading the Leopards to a 14-9 win over the University of Redlands Wednesday night.

Kelly Jackson was a wall in the cage. The senior posted a career-high 15 saves, including several at point-blank range, one key penalty shot to lead the Leopards, and added two steals. Fellow senior Reiley Burton led La Verne offensively with three goals and two assists.

Seniors Olivia Taylor, Brianna Zapata, and Porsche Double also made big contributions in the win. Taylor scored twice, Zapata added two goals, one assist, two drawn, exclusions, and one steal, and Double was impactful defensively and totalled one drawn exclusion and one block.

Maddie Grove played one of her best all-around games of the year. The junior tallied two goals, one assist, one drawn exclusion, and two blocks.

Freshman Maya De Guzman had a big game on both ends of the pool, ending with two goals, one assist, and two steals. Nancy Trinh and Brookly Young added one goal and one assist apiece. Payge Milled scored once. Gigi Gomez, Kelly Long, and Dottie Barera dealt one assist.

Season Impact

With the win, the Leopards moved into fourth place in the SCIAC standings with a 6-4 conference record, currently a half game ahead of Cal Lutheran.

Next Game

The Leopards head to Pasadena for a showdown with Caltech on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m.
