LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne played even with the visiting University of Redlands Bulldogs through the first quarter but couldn't overcome a 4-0 Bulldogs' second quarter, falling 14-9 in their home opener.

Timothy Robles led La Verne with three goals, two assists, two steals, and a block. Josh Lamberton finished with two goals and five drawn exclusions.

Jordan Baker scored twice. Christian Acosta and Zack Montoya both scored once.

The Bulldogs and Leopards traded goals in the opening quarter, with Lamberton netting two of his goals, including one with 1:22 left in the period to tie the game 3-3.

La Verne battled back, scoring six second-half goals, but it wasn't enough to close the deficit.

The Leopards move to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC. They return to action on Wednesday, October 14, when they host the Occidental College Tigers at 6 p.m.
