University of La Verne

LA VERNE, CA — Henry De Luna did it all, 14 different Leopards scored, the game was never in doubt, and the University of La Verne men's water polo team routed the Caltech Beavers, 22-6 on Senior Day.

Leaders

De Luna grabbed two saves in the first half but shined in the fourth quarter. The goalie got his first chance of the season to play in the field, and the senior made the most of it, scoring a game-high four goals in the final quarter to put an exclamation point on the win.

In a similar role reversal, Timothy Robles stepped into the cage in the fourth quarter and was a brick wall, recording four saves. Offensively, Robles finished with two goals and added two steals. Peyton O'Steen finished with one save.

Tommy Gibson, Jordan Baker, Xavier Turla, and Zack Montoya scored two goals apiece.

How It Happened

The Leopards jumped on the Beavers early, outscoring Caltech 6-2 in the first with Zachariah Barclay and Josh Lamberton scoring during a four-goal run. Lamberton finished with four drawn exclusions and one assist.

La Verne shut out the Beavers in the second quarter to take a 10-2 lead at the half.

Solomon Smalley, Nicolo Buono, Antonio Finianos, Ethan Estephan, William Roby Unkovich, and Luciano Gutierrez all scored in the win.

Season Impact

The Leopards improve to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in the SCIAC.
