Men's Soccer Battles at APU

AZUSA, CA — The University of La Verne men's soccer team pressed SCIAC newcomers Azusa Pacific University Wednesday night but couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit, falling 2-1.

Kai Garza got the Leopards on the board in the 78th minute, knocking in a rebounded shot from Aiden Tapia-Palacios that bounced off the keeper.

Julian Arellano kept the Cougars busy. The junior was a headache for the APU offense and did his part in creating chances for the Leopards' attack.

Marcus Lewinsohn recorded four saves in his second save of the season.

The Leopards move to 4-4-4 overall, and the Cougars go to 6-4-2.

The game does not count toward SCIAC standings as the Cougars complete their reclassification to NCAA Division III.

La Verne returns to the postseason chase this Saturday when they face Caltech at 7 p.m. at Ortmayer Stadium. The Leopards will host their second annual Pack the Stands Night, featuring free food and giveaways.
